Full of what?

I have been studying discernment in the last couple of weeks, asides the fact that my fellowship is currently doing a study on it, I am convinced that it is a virtue that is so paramount for the times we are in, mostly because the world has now become saturated with false doctrine. Everyone with their own version of truth.

More than anything, the saints need discernment.

In studying, I realised that a person only discerns what they are full of. People cannot discern something they have encountered just once or twice. They might recognise it as something familiar but to discern is a deeper level that requires the working of both the Holy Spirit and the knowledge of God. The absence of either will result in a faulty revelation.

I had an Aunt who attributed every occurrence in life that was unfavourable to witchcraft. She will always say “they have come again“, by ‘they’, she will be referring to the coven of witches. You will often find her watching movies about witchcraft and the occult, her books were just as consistent. So it made sense that in everything, she would discern the operation of witches.

She had been so full of information on witchcraft that it was all she could see in every situation. Your intake will largely determine what your spirit will discern.

This is why we encourage believers to let every channel open to them be channels through which God can speak and commune with you. If you want to discern God in people and places, you must be filled with Him first. It is almost like a magnet that attracts and repels. A magnet recognises when it has come in contact with the partner that attracts it. If the magnet was void of the molecules causing the attraction, it would be useless, neither attracting or repelling.

Most believers are like that, going with the flow and doing trial and error because they are unable to discern anything. God gave us the method, fill yourself with what you want to discern.

So here’s a challenge, pay attention to the first thoughts of your mind when you meet a person or go to a new place, it might be a good indication of what you are full of.

You are so right! Everyone one seems to have their own definition of truth these days. And, like you said, we see what we are full off.

We don’t see things as they are, we seem things as WE are!

May we steep ourselves, like tea in hot water, in God’s Word and Way.

    Great post! Blessings.

Dear Fochwoman: Your last sentence was right-on: “So here’s a challenge, pay attention to the first thoughts of your mind when you meet a person or go to a new place, it might be a good indication of what you are full of.” A person’s first thoughts about a situation are usually the most purest thoughts. After that, when you start ‘supposing’ over your first thoughts is when they become muddled. Take your first thought to the Lord. Ask Him if that thought was from Him. In His good time He will respond. Until that time…hold the course and do nothing.

Yes, I totally agree with you, even more because I have just finished a book titled ‘Blink’ by Malcolm Gladwell, He’s also a christian, and he explained all you just said above with years of research and more indepthly. I pray God helps us be more attentive and also yield even more to the working of His Spirit. Thank you for reading and engaging.
