It is so important that our experiences and encounters of God grow to accommodate the height of our current human ability to feel awe.
If we’ve seen God heal, seeing strange powers or authorities heal will not leave us in awe.
Reading Revelation 13 recently, and I saw that anything that brings man to marvel will always create curiosity in us and capture our attention. Verse 13 speaks of a creature that emerged from the sea in Johns vision, theologically, this sea creature is said to represent the antichrist, but John goes on to say “I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.” Revelation 13:3
The world “marvelled and followed the beast”.
It’s important that we see first in God, the things that could contend for our awe and worship.
This is why our feelings could be an indication of our hearts true posture, if our most excitements and pleasures are experienced in places and atmospheres far from the presence of God, it tells us already that there are things we consider more desirous than God Himself, and this is an abuse of the purpose of our creation.
The armour that experiences and encounters with God give us isn’t merely to show us His might or give us encounters of God to talk about in pride.
It is more to satisfy us now and in advance of anything that could oppose that satisfaction of our awe and marvel.
The things, events and people that have provoked the greatest excitement, joy and awe in me have always been full of Gods spirit and presence and this matters, because when I see same things and events from contrary spirits and people, I will recognise it as counterfeit and reject it immediately, if not, like Revelation 13:3, I will find myself following in marvel.
May the height of our human awe, excitement and marvel be satisfied by the one true God and the display of His might alone.
