Heart in training

I have become convinced that the human heart is in training everyday. Metaphorically, we can think our hearts as soldiers, encountering training every day by the kinds of things we expose it to.

The deposit of Gods Spirit is us is a catalyst for our hearts training in righteousness, but it is not a guarantee because the frequent exposures of our hearts to a vary of things are even greater determinants. So we’ll find that even Spirit-filled believers can be caught in the most unrighteous acts, giving credence to all other factors enabling our Spirit-man even after we have accepted the Holy Spirit and become the righteousness of God.

Part of the training our hearts receive as we grow in God is to believe Gods word against all odds. Believing is one thing, believing against all odds is another. The training we receive is more the latter because we can have several contrasting beliefs constantly in contention. We must not merely believe God, we must believe Him above all else.

I was reminded of the attack of the king of Assyria on Jerusalem when Hezekiah sat as king, the bible said that before the king of Assyria arrived Jerusalem to put it under siege, he sent his officials with letters to read to the people at the wall. He didn’t care that the letters got to Hezekiah, his intention was to the hearts of Hezekiahs subjects. According to 2 chronicles 32:18, the intention was to “terrify them so it would be easier to capture the city.”
‭‭

Our hearts and minds are constantly exposed to knowledge, ideas and beliefs that seek to terrify us for the purpose of preparing us for capture. It’s a consistent tool of the enemy from times past. To train your heart and prepare it for his attack.

This is why the believer makes it a point of duty to become a total stranger to fear because fear isn’t merely a feeling, it is a reaction of our heart to a demeaning belief of our God. and the more it’s entertained, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes the usual belief of our God in our hearts.

Like we see consistently in the bible, King Hezekiah chose to attack the training on the hearts of His subject by prayer, “Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to God in heaven. And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed the Assyrian army with all its commanders and officers. So Sennacherib (king of Assyria) was forced to return home in disgrace to his own land. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with a sword.” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭32‬:‭20‬-‭21‬ ‭

We must never become at home with fear. We must never rationalise it to be a part of our human experience. We must realise the intention of the enemy to capture our hearts first before his attack. And having recognised an unusual training to our hearts, we must turn to God in prayer, knowing the most superior training for our hearts will come from Him.
