Person of endless possibilities

I woke up this morning in total awe of the Holy Spirit. The trinity absolutely floors my mind, and it’s amazing to see them function all together as three in one.

But the Holy Spirit…

My thoughts this morning were threefold.

1. I was excited at the gravity of Gods love that is communicated to us in the Holy Spirit. I’m genuinely at peace knowing that “God did not leave us as orphans but came to make a home in us” (John 14:18). This is only made possible by the Spirit of God. Closely related is the stark realisation that Jesus cut His stay on earth short cause He knew and confessed Himself that it will be better for Him to go and for the Holy Spirit to come (John 16:7). Because by the Holy Spirit, Jesus wasn’t limited by presence anymore, and so at the same time across various locations we can experience power and communion with Abba by the fact that the Holy Spirit dwells right inside of us!

2. I went further and I thought of the assurance the Holy Spirit gives to us on this side of eternity about the coming glory. The bible calls Him “the guarantee”, “the deposit” of what is to come (2 Corinthians 1:22). Genuinely that makes me so giddy because His presence is a daily reminder to us of Jesus return and our reunion with Abba. This knowledge makes life so much more beautiful, because there is an expectation that fuels and encourages us everyday. That expectation grounds us in eternal thinking and not merely the futility and temporal nature of this world. I’m convinced that the satisfaction the believer has and enjoys in this world is because of the expectation of physical reunion with Abba soon.

3. Finally, this morning I was reminded of His independent function in the trinity to help, comfort, teach, convict, rebuke and enable the God-life in us. I’m unsure which one excites me more but typing this number 3 makes me want to scream and shout in pure joy! The Holy Spirit is the only reason the believer could think to ‘be like Christ’. If you ever sit and meditate on who you were before Christ, how you thought before Christ and just the person you were in the flesh, you’ll appreciate this precious Spirit, much more in us because by Him we have a new identity. We received the power to be ‘new creations’ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our identity in the realm of the spirit is ‘Jesus’ and oh, what power and authority we access because of this.

All of this beauty wrapped in the gentleness of His person. I’m crying now. Haha.

The Holy Spirits’ person is such a message from Abba to us and as I pray daily for myself, I pray for you too that May this precious Holy Spirit count for much in us.
