But (s)he’s not God

I got a glimpse of making your partner your God a few weeks ago.

I can be quite the opposite of a needy partner but in those days, I was extra sensitive and very needy and so I was hurt much more because I placed unrealistic expectations on him without even communicating them at all.

This is why a godly union must comprise of 2 people who have God as their number 1, first individually, before even collectively. Jesus needs to be your waking thought and last thought, He needs to be the one who’s attention and love you desire and crave more than anything. You must be excited first about Him before the blessing He’s giving you.

God has always made it clear to us that the best of His blessing to us will never substitute Him, so we must be conscious of that daily. Waking up and giving God number 1 spot.

At a point in my life I was learning this, I would wake up every morning and before even my devotion, I would say “Jesus, today I choose you”, and it always did something to my day and priorities.

I bet the people we love are amazing and sweet, but when we make them our very oxygen, we are bound to get hurt, they’re limited in their humanity as well so please don’t assign the abilities in Gods jurisdiction on a person who loves you and then accuse them of being incapable when they have attempted to fill a shoe which is meant for God to be filling.

I love how God has chosen to show us how much we actually need Him, even in the fullness of earthly love, you’ll still find that you desire something greater, which is God Himself. I love this need more than anything.

I said to a group of people just last week that it is easy to love a loved person. If you are loving someone who has encountered Gods love, it makes it so much easier, not eliminating the need for effort, but easier in the sense that you’re not expected to fill a space in them that only God can fill. A reminder that the benefit of not being unequally yoked isn’t for God, it is actually for you, so next time someone asks why you’re dating or courting someone not of the faith, don’t get mad at God, He stands nothing to lose really, He’s just wanting the best for me and for you.

On the flip side, may God bless you with a partner who’s patient and mature enough to not dismiss your misplaced neediness but refocus you to your ultimate source while assuring you that if they could be all sufficient like God for you, they will be, but if they were, wouldn’t that be creating a rival for God?

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want that, I want to always be able to sing “You have no rival, You have no equal, now and forever God you reign” and be completely convinced just by looking at my life.

This is a great piece with some real meat. I wrote down three things you said!

The best of God’s blessings will never substitute for Him.

Hey Rubie, I can relate to the part of having really high expectations and not telling them. I was quite disappointed initially but it turned out well.
In the part of loving God first, I believe I’ve been more intentional about that in these last weeks too.
It’s quite surreal for me to know that someone loves me more and I get to love on them too everyday.
    Thank you Rubie💫❤️
